Steel coil is an indispensable material in modern industry and is widely used in automobile manufacturing, construction, home appliances and other fields. Its production process is a precise process, including multiple steps from raw material smelting to the final product. The following is a detailed process of steel coil production.
1. Raw material preparation and steel smelting
The production of steel coil begins with the preparation of raw materials. The main raw material is iron ore, and auxiliary materials include coke and limestone. The iron ore is first fed into a blast furnace, where it reacts with coke and limestone at high temperatures to produce molten iron and slag. The molten iron is then smelted in a converter or electric arc furnace to remove impurities and adjust the composition, and finally pure steel is obtained.
2. Continuous casting
The smelted molten steel is fed into a continuous casting machine. The function of the continuous casting machine is to quickly cool and solidify the liquid steel into a solid, usually forming a billet. A billet is a primary steel product with a rectangular or circular cross-section and good machinability.
3. Hot rolling
After continuous casting, the billet is fed into a hot rolling mill. Hot rolling is to heat the steel billet to above 1200°C and process it through a series of rollers. After multiple rolling, the steel billet is rolled into a thinner steel plate or strip. The main purpose of hot rolling is to reduce the thickness of the steel and improve its structure and performance to meet the predetermined specifications.
4. Cooling and cold rolling
The steel strip after hot rolling needs to be cooled. The steel strip is gradually cooled to room temperature through the cooling line. The cooled steel strip will be sent to the cold rolling mill for further processing. Cold rolling is to pass the steel strip through a series of cold rolling rollers to further reduce the thickness and improve the surface quality. The cold-rolled steel strip has higher strength and better surface finish, which is suitable for applications with high thickness and surface requirements.
5. Annealing treatment
In order to eliminate the internal stress generated during the cold rolling process and further improve the performance of the steel, the cold-rolled steel strip will be annealed. Annealing is to heat the steel strip to a specific temperature in an annealing furnace and keep it for a certain period of time to allow its grains to recrystallize. Annealing not only improves the ductility of the steel strip, but also enhances its processability.
6. Surface treatment and inspection
The annealed steel strip will undergo surface treatment, such as pickling, coating, etc., to remove surface oxides and impurities. The treated steel coils will undergo strict quality inspections, including thickness, width, strength, surface quality, etc., to ensure that the products meet the standards.
7. Packaging and transportation
Finally, the steel coils that meet the quality standards will be wound into coils and packaged. During the packaging process, the steel coils will be wrapped with protective film, marked with relevant information, and prepared for transportation. The coil design of the steel coil facilitates large-scale storage and transportation, ensuring that it is not damaged during transportation.
